Benjamin Tanny

Montreal is my home town. A beautiful place, were we celebrate the four seasons: winter, winter, winter, and summer! I have grown up (well never did), skiing, ice skating, snow shooing and snow ball throwing.

Benjamin Tanny
Jewish Rabbi from
Australia/Canada

I Graduated high school and made my way to Australia. My parents were not thrilled about this. They wanted me to go further away, but we agreed on Melbourne. Initially, I just wanted to learn a bit about my religion at the Rabbinical Collage in Melbourne, but ended up spending the next few years studying to become a fully ordained Rabbi.

While studying and working the past six years in Australia, I have always maintained a part time employed position in a Synagogue. Serving in capacity as all, or either; Cantor, Senior Rabbi, Assistant to a Senior Rabbi, Youth Liaison Officer, and programs coordinator.
Scouting and the outdoors is a passion for me. My involvement in Scouts Canada, Boy Scouts of America, and Australian Scouts has afforded me the opportunity to gain some serious outdoor skills, and adventure around the world. I served as a Chaplain at the Australasia 2001 Scouting Jamboree, and at the World Jamboree in Thailand 2003.

In Montreal, I spent time in a junior circus twirling knives, juggling fire on unicycles and performing acrobatic stunts. These interesting pursuits have assisted me greatly in entertaining my younger nine siblings and have earned me a small side income.
I also spend time lecturing in Australia, Canada and the USA, in health, fitness, and Relaxation.
Currently, I teach Comparative Religious studies part time, and I'm employed as Cantor, assistant Rabbi and programs coordinator for the North Shore Synagogue. I perform jug/magic shows occasionally and do some work as a personal trainer, writing health and fitness programs. I believe it's important to keep spiritually, physically and mentally fit. Along with my Torah and Kabala study, I do some running, climbing, and yoga.

The serenity of natures bliss and high places is an addiction of mine. A condition developed, from spending my teenage years involved in scouting movements around the world. Climbing, canoeing, and diving with people from every walk-and-talk of this planet inspires me to pursue the outdoors while making this world a more peaceful place.
