The love affair continued through many years of backpacking, mountain climbing and skiing. It was not until 1977 that Jerry climbed anything outside of California, when he climbed the Matterhorn, a mountain his Swiss Grandfather had often told him about. From there, Jerry has continued to climb higher and bigger mountains, including Mt. Rainier, Mt. McKinley and Mt. Aconcagua. In 1995, Jerry attempted to climb Mt. Everest with Bob Hoffman and Apa Sherpa but was unbable to reach the summit.
Jerry is strongly attracted to The Everest Peace Project because of its goals of promoting a global community of peace, teamwork and cultural understanding. As a stock and bond broker for over thirty five years he has always been keenly aware of the global scramble for natural resources and the conflicts that have occurred as a result. In recent years, that scramble is accelerating. Jerry believes that The Everest Peace Project can play a significant role in helping to promote peace and understanding in the world.
Jerry will be 72 when we are climbing in 2006 - if he is successful he will the oldest person to ever summit Mt. Everest!
